Hey, I’m the “new guy” here at 100.5 The River. We’ll get to hang out for part of your workday and the drive home while you’re listening to Today’s Best Mix without the rap. Some people asked “why would you move HERE?” when I started. I answer that question with disbelief and realize that people in GR simply don’t realize what a great city they have. Grand Rapids is just a fantastic city. The people, the downtown, the festivals, the philanthropy of our ‘famous families’ … the list goes on and on. The VIBE of this city is just incredible. Those who say “why would you move HERE?” clearly don’t realize how crappy most other similar sized cities are compared to GR. We moved here from the vibrant and clean city (#sarcasm) of Toledo, OH where I was the Operations Manager for six radio stations. Before that, I was on-air or programming stations in Philadelphia, New York City, Milwaukee, Madison, Cedar Rapids (Iowa) and Waterloo (Iowa). My wife and I met in Madison and were married four days after 9/11. We have two “furry kids” named Ollie (yellow lab/bassett/corgi) and Chester (bassett). I’m also the Program Director for Channel 95-7 and 100.5 The River, so if you have any comments, suggestions or complaints (I welcome compliments, too), just email or call me!

Fake Interpreter Crashes Nelson Mandela Funeral
There were so many world leaders and dignitaries at the funeral for Nelson Mandela, it was billed as the largest gathering of global leaders in recent history.
That makes it even more puzzling that a fake interpreter was able to share the stage and cameras, nearly unnoticed for a few minutes...
“Meatball” the Corgi Loves the Merry Go Round
Meet "Meatball" the Corgi. He's happy, energetic and loves to run in circles on a Merry-Go-Round. Every time he passes the humans, he barks in appreciation. It's almost like clockwork. Meatball eventually jumps off after a few minutes of running...
Congresswoman Asks To “Shut Down” Her Pay During Government Shutdown
I'd like to say I'm surprised that our so-called "leaders" couldn't come to an agreement on funding the government for fiscal year 2014. But this? This is not a look of surprise.
Sales Are Down, Women Blamed
Well this is an interesting strategy. The bride above doesn't appear impressed, either.
You've heard of Men's Wearhouse, right? If nothing else, you probably heard their commercials with the guy saying "you're gonna like the way you look. I guarantee it." That guy was the Founder and CEO. He was fired earlier this year because of poor sales.
GRCC To Receive $4.1M As Part Of Grant Money
GRCC is set to receive $4.1 million in grant money. The college is part of the Michigan Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing, which was awarded a much larger $24.9 million grant, of which GRCC gets a share.
GRCC will use the money used to upgrade manufacturing programs, purchase equipment better suited to teach advances in manufacturing and also for new equipment to grow their current educational
Pure Michigan TV Ads Place First In the U.S.A.
It's something we've known for a LONG time. Those "Pure Michigan" ads you hear on the radio and see on TV really showcase our great state and even make the residents of Michigan want to visit!
Now, "Pure Michigan" has received top honors from the US Travel Association and the National Council of State Tourism Directors (who knew there was such a thing?). ...
iPhone 5 Opened By A Cat
The iPhone 5S was released to a lot of fanfare. One of the new features is the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone instead of entering some sort of code.
By all accounts, the fingerprint scanner works well. But this is interesting ...
RECALL: The Children’s Place Footed Pajamas
Another recall to tell you about. This one is for "footed pajamas" from The Children's Place. Apparently they don't meet federal standards for flammability, posing a burn hazard to children.
More specifically, the recall is for certain bunny-themed one-piece cotton foot pajamas...
Belding 10-Year-Old Found Dead In Flat River
What a strange day this has been. It started with the news of shooting at the Navy Yards in Washington, D.C. and now we get news about a tragedy closer to home.
You may recall hearing the story of a boy named Devon Morrison who went missing on Saturday in Belding...
RECALL: Motrin Infant Drops
Another recall to tell you about. This time it's for Motrin Infants Drops, Original Berry Flavor, which are used to treat fever and pain in kids 2 and younger.
About 200,000 bottles are part of this recall because inspectors found a batch that contained tiny plastic pieces that were approximately the size of a poppy seed in the product...
Jimmy Fallon & Ariana Grande Turn Rap Songs Into Broadway Songs
Even if you're not a fan of late night TV, it's great because you can see the cool moments on the internet.
Take, for example, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. A few nights ago, he had singer Ariana Grande on the show. They did a segment where popular songs were turned into Broadway-style songs; stuff like "99 Problems" and "Thrift Shop" were turned into piano-friendly and music
Man Just Out Of Surgery And Still Groggy Is Amazed At His Hot Wife
This video will definitely make you smile and laugh. It was shot by a woman whose husband was just out of surgery and, understandably, still very much drugged up.
When he is "with it" enough, he looks at the person talking to him and has a look of surprise, asking if the doctor sent her or if she was a model...
