December 21 marked the end of late Jeopardy! contestant Cindy Stowell's six-game winning streak, but show host Alex Trebek and fans are sure her legacy will have a much further reach.

Stowell, a 41-year-old science-content developer who died on December 5 just days before her string of episodes began airing, auditioned for Jeopardy! while battling Stage IV cancer. Her boyfriend Jason Hess said she was battling a fever and infection while filming, and on last night's (December 21) episode, Trebek delivered a special message that conveyed just how special Stowell's appearance on the show was.

(Oh, and it bears mentioning that just before dying, Stowell pledged to donate her more than $100,000 in winnings to the Cancer Research Institute, according to The New York Times).

"Appearing on the show was the result of a lifelong ambition for that lady," Trebek said. "From all of us here at Jeopardy!, our sincere condolences to her family and her friends."

And fans of the show have said Stowell's journey has been the most compelling storyline Jeopardy! has broadcast. The Jeopardy! Fan moderator Andy Saunders told the Times "This is easily the most compelling five-game champion in the history of the show."
