David Gordon Green already sort of remade Adventures in Babysitting with his R-rated comedy The Sitter, but if you’re looking for a more family-friendly, contemporary update on the 1987 classic (why would you want this?), the Disney Channel has you covered…kind of. The company supposedly remade Adventures in Babysitting, except, not really. They just repurposed the basic concept and added some Disney stars to appeal to an entire generation that has no idea what Adventures in Babysitting is.

Today in “pointless remakes you had no idea existed,” the Disney Channel has released a trailer for Adventures in Babysitting, which stars Girl Meets World’s Sabrina Carpenter and The Descendants’ Sofia Carson in a new take on the ’80s favorite. Instead of one babysitter, the remake features two, putting them in one of those odd couple buddy comedy situations as the “edgy” girl has to team up with the “good” girl for a last minute babysitting gig that leads to shenanigans when they lose one of the kids they’ve been tasked with watching. YOU LITERALLY HAD ONE JOB.

There are a few references to the original film, including a nod to the blues club scene and a trench coat that’s similar to Elisabeth Shue’s coat in the 1987 version — but that version leaned into the PG-13 rating and this new Disney version is straight G-rated, wholesome stuff.  Here’s the official synopsis for the remake:

In Adventures in Babysitting, a dull evening for two competing babysitters, Jenny (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lola (Sofia Carson), turns into an adventure in the big city as they hunt for one of the kids who somehow snuck away. Written by Tiffany Paulsen (“Nancy Drew), it will be directed by John Schultz (Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, Like Mike) and executive-produced by Michelle Manning (Teen Beach 2, The Breakfast Club).

The new Adventures in Babysitting will air this summer, with an exact release date to be announced.
