7 Things To Do In West Michigan Before Summer Ends
Summer's almost over... before long school will be back in session, football will be on TV and we'll be watching the weather for snow. So, before all that happens and we start spending more time inside, here's 7 things you need to do before the end of summer. Some of them you can do anytime and some are date specific, but enjoy:
1) Attend a Whitecaps game
They’ll be in town August 11-14th, August 19-21st and again August 31st –September 2nd. Games start at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchase at the box office or HERE
2) Watch a movie in Ah Nab Awen Park
August 19th is the last movie for “Movies in the Park” at Ah Nab Awen Park for the season. It’s also going to be a double feature with ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ and ‘Jumanji’ being shown. Movies start at dusk, entertainment starts at 7 p.m. and is free. Food vendors are on site, but you can also bring your own food as well as drinks, blankets and chairs. More details HERE
3) Go swing dancing downtown Grand Rapids
Every Tuesday night through the summer Grand Rapids Original Swing Society gets together for free swing dancing. If you don’t know how to swing dance, no worries! They do a lesson each week from 7 - 7:30 p.m. They're in a different downtown location each week, so check out their website, but here’s their schedule through August.

Aug. 23 - Ah-Nab-Awen Park with
Aug. 30 – Rosa Parks Circle
4) Enjoy a weekend of free music at Grand Jazzfest

5) Attend the Grand Picnic
This is a new picnic experience for Grand Rapids. Think of this as a flash mob picnic.. because you won't find out WHERE it is, until the day of the event. It happens Thursday, August 25th, we'll provide chairs, tables and entertainment, you just need to bring food and your friends. Again, you won't find out the location of the Grand Picnic until the day of, but we can promise it will be a really cool location AND anyone who attends will definitely be talking about it! Remember to get the location of the Grand Picnic you'll need to get tickets before August 25th and you can get them HERE
6) Enjoy a beach day at Millennium Park
Between the beach area, splashpad or boat rentals, it’s always a fun way to spend a summer afternoon AND no matter which city you live in, you're not very far away from the fun.
7) Weekend trip to Michigan’s Adventure
Still a short drive to Muskegon, you can have a long weekend away before the fall activities kick in and busy up your schedule. Between the Michigan’s Adventure and Wildwater Adventure Waterpark, you’re definitely going to make a few summer memories.
SHAMELESS STATION PLUG – I know it’s not in West Michigan… but if we’re talking about things to do before the end of summer… you can also try to win passes to Cedar Point!
